Federation of Infection Societies Conference

You are all very welcome to the world-renowned Sage Centre in Gateshead/Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK for the Federation of Infection Societies meeting 2018 (FIS 2018).

This meeting is the premier infection conference of the UK and delegates from all disciplines of laboratory, preventive and clinical medicine within the spheres of infectious diseases, microbiology, infection prevention and tropical/travel medicine attend. Here the most important issues facing modern infection practice are discussed and debated, and FIS 2018 is bringing together some of the best and most thoughtful minds from around in the world to inform and participate.

Topics covered over an exciting and challenging three days include the numerous threats posed to humanity by anti-microbial resistance, HIV, viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, outbreaks in serious emerging infections, tropical and travel medicine. There are also sessions on paediatric infectious diseases and an update on current infection-related NICE guidelines.

Our aim is that the conference will enjoy input from clinical scientists working in the laboratory and clinicians who deal with adult and paediatric patients at the “clinical coal face” on a regular basis.

We expect over 600 delegates will attend this conference and there will be many opportunities to interact with opinion leaders, senior and junior clinicians from all over the UK. Together with the plenaries and symposia we expect many wide-ranging presentations on the exhibition floor in poster and meet-the-expert format. This will allow you to further share opinion and interact with your colleagues.

In addition to the scientific deliberations we have also planned an innovative social programme to allow for better networking opportunities between clinicians, trainees and industry. We are organising a unique and vibrant Gala Festival evening on the banks of the River Tyne, with street food, street entertainment and wonderful live music that will allow you to relax and socialise with friends and colleagues. During the conference we will also host a meditation area so that your well-being is supported as you learn and network.
