The BSAC 2016 Roundtable Series on Antimicrobial Resistance will examine the economic, societal and human impact of antimicrobial resistance and look at the vital role of education in minimising this.
The events are aimed at healthcare professionals, policy makers, scientists, researchers, educators, commercial sector partners amongst others and will examine topics such as the macroeconomic impact of resistance, the true burden of communicable disease and ask if we can really change the upward trajectory of antimicrobial resistance.
Through a combination of plenary lectures and interactive panel discussions participants will consider the role of big data and alternative therapies in averting the doomsday crisis that have been predicted. The series will examine what solutions are available through the changing research and regulatory landscape, the vital role of antimicrobial stewardship and education in addressing resistance, what role alternative therapies might play in tackling resistance, and whether any educational programmes and interventions have true global applicability.
These timely events will be hosted in the run-up to the final report of the O’Neill Review on AMR, during the second year of the Innovative Medicines Initiative DRIVE-AB project and in tandem with the second iteration of the Massive Open Online Course on Antimicrobial Stewardship – offering opportunity to engage with stakeholders across all three projects.
