Voriconazole Photosensitivity:The Need For Clear Guidelines for Patients

Submitted by GAtherton on 6 August 2015

An audit of 30 Cystic Fibrosis patients receiving voriconazole  finds that the provision of guidance on the use of sunblock to prevent sunburn and occasionally squamous cell carcinoma (in immunocompromised patients) was very poor. The authors highlight the need for better advice for all patients taking voriconazole, especially those vulnerable to skin cancer. Patients awareness that bouts of sunlight sensitivity should be reported back to a patients doctors so that voriconazole could be discontinued is important.
