Exposure to damp homes can cause hypersensitivity pneumonitis. This is thought to be an allergic response to something in the environment of the effected person, and the treatment is to remove them from the source of the allergy – be that a pet, work exposure etc. However recent research is showing that those people who do NOT know what is triggering their hypersensitivity and who are consequently NOT asked to change their lives often feel better than those who do!
This short comment suggests that this might be due to people feeling a lot worse due to changing their lives compared with improving their hypersensitivity symptoms.
This rather begs the question Is it worth it?
Or perhaps we have yet to fully understand this illness and its impact on patients.
