There has long been an international conference on Aspergillosis (Advances against Aspergillosis) but few others that specialise in Aspergillus and its infections. Incidence of aspergillosis and other illnesses caused by Aspergillus is steadily increasing in frequency and scope throughout the world (GAAFI estimates), so it is good to see awareness, communication, collaboration and research being promoted & facilitated in more parts of the world. In particular it is tremendously important that parts of the world where English is not the first language are made more aware of the need for good diagnostic & treatment facilities.
The Invasive Fungi Research Center (IFRC), School of Medicine, Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, Iran is launching a conference that specialises in Aspergillus and aspergillosis to run in November 2016. This is a part of the world with a long history of research and achievement in Aspergillus research so it is no surprise that they are taking a lead in this important field of research.
The conference organisers describe its aims thus:
1st IFRC International Conference on Clinical Mycology, Aspergillus and Aspergillosis is a way to bring together researchers on Aspergillus, medical mycologists and other related specialists including medical microbiologists, hematologists, oncologists, transplant physicians, immunologists, dermatologists, pediatricians, and all those with interests in medical mycology. The conference will encompass all of the fields of clinical mycology with particular attention being paid to the major challenges on the Aspergillus and aspergillosis including “taxonomy”, “genetics”, “immunity”, “epidemiology”, “antifungal susceptibility”, “management strategies”, “diagnosis” and “clinical presentations” to “future challenges”.
Long may it continue.
