Abstract:

Background: The IDSA guidelines (IDSA GL) for treatment of candidemia include recommendations for initial antifungal (AF) therapy (Rx), management of intravascular catherers (CVL), and duration of therapy. We were interested in the treatment of candidemia at UAB and correlation with IDSA GL. Methods: We prospectively identified consecutive cases of candidemia in adults at UAB from July 2002 to April 2003 by reviewing blood culture data upper RTI. PT with upper and lower RTI have different co-morbidities which may influence antimicrobial prescribing patterns.
