Abstract:

Two hundred and forty-nine soil samples were collected from 16 provinces in Thailand on
October 2008 to May 2009. Alcohol and heat treatment methods and Gochenaur8223;s glucose ammonium
nitrate agar were employed. Identification of fungal isolates was based on morphological characteristics,
as colony growth pattern, color and texture on standard media. Microscopic characteristics comprising
Aspergillus anamorphic state, size, shape and ornamentation of ascospores were examined under light,
stereo and scanning electron microscopes. Camera lucida drawing was made. Two hundred and
forty-eight isolates of Neosartorya were obtained including 7 known species comprising N. fischeri, N.
glabra, N. laciniosa, N. pseudofischeri, N. spinosa, N. takakii and N. tatenoi. One new species as N.
siamensis sp. nov. (KUFC 6349) was found. Three species of Neosartorya, including N. glabra, N.
laciniosa and N. pseudofischeri were new records for Thailand. The dominant species from this study
were N. spinosa, N. fischeri, N. glabra, and N. siamensis. The validation of new species is supported
further by analyses of the β -tubulin gene sequences.
