Acute invasive pulmonary aspergillosis with positive Aspergillus blood culture

Case number:

This man with non-Hodgkins lymphoma developed acute invasive pulmonary aspergillosis after chemotherapy, splenectomy, abdominal radiotherapy and corticosteroid therapy. His blood culture was positive for A. fumigatus, as was a sputum culture three weeks later. He improved with conventional amphotericin B, but radiologically was stable until the addition of flucytosine. He recovered completely.
