Abstract:
This study investigated the basis for intrinsic amphotericin B resistance in Aspergillus terreus. Ergosterol content, cell wall composition, and lipid peroxidation had no influence in AMB resistance. Catalase production was significantly higher in A. terreus when compared to A. fumigatus (P<0.05). This may contribute to AMB resistance in A. terreus since oxidative damage has been implicated in AMB action.
