Abstract:

Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is the result of hypersensitivityto Aspergillus antigens in patients with long-standing atopic asthma. In the presentstudy mycelial and culture filtrate antigens from Aspergillus fumigatusculturesisolated from diverse sources were tested against sera of 10 ABPA patientsand 10 control individuals by an ELISA methodology. The results indicate higherantibody reactivity against both antigens in the sera of ABPA patients, while culturefiltrate antigens also gave non-specific reactivity with control sera. Mycelialextracts, in general, were useful in the diagnosis of ABPA.
