Abstract:
to the editor: The detection of aspergillus galactomannanantigenemia is a method used in the diagnosisof invasive aspergillosis.1,2 Some transientfalse positive reactions have been reported with theuse of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays in relationto the passage of galactomannan of foodorigin through the intestinal mucosa or in relationto possible interactions with antibiotics, includingpiperacillin.3 We report a recent marked increase inthe frequency of false positive tests and its relationto the concomitant administration of piperacillinand tazobactam.
