Emerging fungal threats to animal, plant and ecosystem health: The past two decades have seen an increasing number of virulent infectious diseases in natural populations and managed landscapes. In both animals and plants, an unprecedented number of fungal and fungal-like diseases have recently caused some of the most severe die-offs and extinctions ever witnessed in wild species, and are jeopardizing food security. Human activity is intensifying fungal disease dispersal by modifying natural environments and thus creating new opportunities for evolution. We argue that nascent fungal infections will cause increasing attrition of biodiversity, with wider implications for human and ecosystem health, unless steps are taken to tighten biosecurity worldwide.

I am pleased to announce that Livingstone Chishimba has agreed to hold our second Question & Answer session at our next Aspergillosis Support Meeting on May 3rd.

Livingstone held a similar session last year and it was a great success. He is one of our Fellowship doctors which means he is a specialist in chest medicine and regularly carried out bronchoscopy's for example.

Everyone will be able to listen in on the internet or watch a recording. If you listen 'live' you will be able to ask questions via our chat facility, or respond asking for more details - this works all over the world not just UK!

All we need now are questions! Last time we did this we got a range of questions - perhaps you didn't hear the answers? Perhaps you have follow-on questions after one of your was answered last time? Perhaps you have new questions? Send your questions in to me here in this thread and we will try to put them all to Livingston on the day. No matter what the question is - big or small ask away!

Practical Allergy in Primary Care Day

Allergic disease has increased dramatically over the last 20 to 30 years and GPs are ideally placed to manage this surge of disease which affects multiple organ systems: gastrointestinal, skin, respiratory and ENT. This interactive study afternoon will take a practical look at the management of a wide range of allergic disease in primary care with the aim of increasing knowledge and confidence when advising patients. A variety of talks will be delivered by some of the UK's leading allergy experts.
