Jenny BartholomewJenny Bartholomew BSc PhD

Graduated in 1978 from Manchester University with a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry . I continued my postgraduate studies at Manchester Medical School studying changes in connective tissue in Atherosclerosis. I graduated with my PhD in 1981 and spent the next four years as a Lecturer and Postgraduate Fellow, at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia - where my research focussed on connective tissue damage in Rheumatoid Arthritis where we first demonstrated the presence of TNF alpha in inflamed cartilage, using a model RA system. In 1986 I returned to Britain where I continued research into Rheumatoid Arthritis at Withington Hospital, Manchester.

1989-1997 I accepted a Postdoctoral position in the Department of Immunology at the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research, Christie Hospital, Manchester. My research interests included the regulation of HLA class I expression in cervical carcinomas and the relevance of HPV oncoproteins in cervical cancer. In 1994 I became an Honorary University Teacher.

During a short career break I studied Web Design, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and microcomputing, completing my studies in June 2001. I have been designing, editing and writing for the Aspergillus website from 2001 to the present, providing clinical information for patients, scientists and clinicians. I also manage and write for the National Aspergillosis Centre, Mycology Reference Laboratory and Fungal Research Trust.
