John Richard Graybill MD

JOHN RICHARD GRAYBILL, M.D graduated from Cornell University Medical School in 1966 and trained in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt and Johns Hopkins University Hospitals. He moved from Vanderbilt to The Audie Murphy VA Memorial Hospital in 1974 where he is now Professor of Medicine and Chief of Infectious Diseases.

He has published over 175 original papers mostly concerning fungal infections, antifungal therapy and the interface between the immune system and fungi. He has also published a variety of other papers on other infectious disease matters. In addition, he has written over 100 reviews and book chapters on fungal infection and antifungal chemotherapy.

His research interests are wide and particularly include fungal infections prevalent in Central and South America such as paracoccidioidomycosis, sporotrichosis, histoplasmosis and coccidioidomysis. He has been involved in the clinical evaluation of all new antifungal drugs. He has also been instrumental in recruiting patients into protocols developed by the NIAID Mycoses Study Group. He works as part of a team in San Antonio which includes the Fungus Testing Laboratory.
